NRL Grand Final 2013Regarded as the greatest prize in Rugby League, the NRL Grand Final is relatively new in terms of playing under the "NRL banner". Started in 1998, the first match was won comfortably by the Brisbane Broncos over the Canterbury Bulldogs 38-12. Since then, it has grown in popularity, and is now right up there with the State Of Origin series in a comparison of viewer numbers.
This year's grand final will be contested by the Manly Sea Eagles and the Sydney Roosters. Both team have followed very different paths to make it into the grand final since their historic match up in the first week of the finals. In this game there was only one try scored in a grueling defense centered game. We know they can both attack very well but defense will win this game.
Manly's lead up to the grand final started with this match up against the Sydney Roosters. After just losing that game they had to play again to make it into the semi finals. This game was against the Cronulla Sharks. Manly without Brett Stewart and the Sharks without Todd Carney turned into a very close game with the Sharks coming very close to snatching the win in the final stages of the match.
From there the Sea Eagles had the biggest task of all and that was playing the South Sydney Rabbitohs who had just come off a weeks rest. The Bunnies were short priced favourites and came out of the blocks firing. The Sea Eagles didn't let it rattle them however and came back even stronger to win the game and kick well ahead. The game was over with ten minutes to go. The boys from brookvale advance and will start underdogs in the NRL Grand Final betting.
Last year's Grand Final is remembered for a number of reasons, both good and bad. Many will recall it was a fantastic game between the Melbourne Storm and Canterbury Bulldogs, with the Storm winning 14-4. Star playmaker Cooper Cronk was awarded the Clive Churchill Medal for winning the Man of the Match. The game will also be remembered for an untimely incident, during which Bulldogs forward James Graham bit the ear of Storm fullback Billy Slater.

We are now left with four in the running for the 2013 NRL grand final. The Newcastle Knights were odds on to make it into the top eight and are now staring down a game that could put them into the grand final. They will have to get past the Sydney Roosters first however and that is no easy feat as this team won the minor premiership. The Knights do have momentum on their side however and a great young halfback in Tyrone Roberts who will be battling an injury to play in the preliminary final.
Leading the charge towards that date are the Melbourne Storm and the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Both sides have started 2013 in cracking form, albeit Melbourne had a slump after a brilliant opening two months of the season. Any side that has Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith should always prove tough to beat. While the Bunnies are the feel good story given that fans have waited since 1989 for a genuine crack at the title, and the 2013 side does look very capable of going all the way.
Hot on the heels of these teams are the Sydney Roosters and the Manly Sea Eagles. Betting on the Roosters to win the grand final should be donw earlier than later. The NRL Grand Final odds will change leading up to the game and constant monitoring of their odds is advised. These two sides recently played an outstanding game, which was marred by the send off of Jared Waera-Hargreaves for his swinging arm on George Rose. The Roosters just look the complete team, and will take a power of beating against any side in the competition.
As for the Manly Sea Eagles, injury and suspension have hurt them and hurt them bad. Should they get to full strength, they will always be a chance to be in the pointy end of the season. They have all of their players back now and are sweating on the decision from the judiciary regarding Glenn Stewart. Stewart was charged with a high tackle on Sam Burgess but should it be a grade one high tackle he will be right to play.
Stewart is right to play which is huge plus for the boys from Manly. He is an integral part of their attack and links up well with his brother and the rest of the backline. He will be a big favourite to win the Clive Churchill Medal as he has won it before and is working into some great form. Look for him on the edges as he attacks the smaller defenders at the line. His passing game is also to be watched by the the opposition team.
The Cronulla Sharks had a terrible year off the park but started to put things together coming into the final. They recruited a lot of talent this year and most of it was from the Tigers who have struggled all year. With key injuries to some of their star players including Paul Gallen and Todd Carney they were always going to struggle at the important end of the season.
Betting on the NRL grand final is starting to heat up and you can monitor the betting odds leading up to the grand final. Betting on the odds for the Clive Churchill Medal winner is very popular and can also be tied in with the NRL Grand Final Odds for first try scorer. By combining these bets you are able to get more money for smaller bets. It may be a little harder to get but it is worth it if it comes off.

Boyd Cordner is still a chance of making the final team but he will be fighting to be fit by the decision time. If he makes it back in time from the broken ankle he will most probably take the spot of young second rower Dylan Napa. Napa has been great for the Bondi boys but if Cordner is fit the Roosters would be keen to have him playing. He has a bright future in the NRL if he can stay fit.
