Widnes Vikings have signed Leeds Rhinos hooker Paul McShane on loan for the rest of the Stobart Super League campaign.

McShane, 22, played in the Rhinos' first eight matches of the season after inheriting the number nine jersey from Danny Buderus, but has slipped down the pecking order since the arrival at Headingley of Huddersfield Giants hooker Shaun Lunt.

The Vikings moved for McShane after parting company with Scott Moore, who is now at Huddersfield, and losing Lloyd White with a season-ending knee injury.

And, with captain Jon Clarke suspended for Sunday's home game against the Giants, McShane is likely to go straight into Denis Betts' team.

"Paul has fantastic potential and is a very skilful player with a tremendous work ethic," said Betts.

"He hasn't featured as often as he would have liked at first-team level over the past few seasons therefore he's excited by the prospect of regular game-time at the Vikings."
