Hull Football Club stalwart Richard Whiting has been recognised for his outstanding service to the game by being granted a 12-month testimonial by the RFL for next year.

The former Featherstone Rovers youngster signed for the Black and Whites in 2004 and has since gone on to play 221 times scoring 70 tries, a feat made all the more impressive after to lengthy spells on the side lines with unfortunate breaks to both his arm and leg.

During his ten years with the club, he has become known for his versatility having played in every position in the team, as well as being one of the hardest working players on the community scene, twice being voted the club’s Community Player of the Year as well as the Super League Community Player of the Year in 2009.

The fans have also recognised his contribution to the side in recent years after being voted Supporters’ Player of the Year for the last two seasons, as well as regularly being in the running for Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year.

The 28-year-old has featured in three finals during his time with the club, representing Hull FC in the Grand Final of 2006, the recent Challenge Cup Final at Wembley and his most notable achievement as a try scorer in the 2005 Challenge Cup Final win over Leeds Rhinos during a season in which he was later crowned Super League's Young Player of the Year.

Whiting has also played for England three times during his career to date.
