Forwards Trent Waterhouse and Garreth Carvell are likely to be missing as Challenge Cup finalists Warrington return to Super League action this weekend.

The pair are carrying knee injuries following the cup semi-final win over Huddersfield Giants two days ago and are set to sit out Sunday's trip to Castleford Tigers.

Veteran stand-off Lee Briers, who overcame an Achilles injury to face the Giants, will also be assessed this week.

Coach Tony Smith said: "I think it is going to be hard for Carvell and Waterhouse to make it.

"We're expecting to lose those two unless they really come round and respond to treatment. We will assess those as we go along and another couple we will run our eye over as the week progresses.

"We need to check out Briers and see how his Achilles goes throughout the week."

Smith, whose side are second in Super League, has rotated his squad throughout the campaign and will again make changes to keep players fresh in their pursuit of leaders Wigan Warriors.

The Australian said: "There will be a few changes, some forced upon us, others it's just a decision to play people who need an opportunity to play.

"Some good players haven't had a chance for the last couple of weeks, and also it's to help play them into some form if they are called upon for other occasions later down the track."
