AUCKLAND, March 7 AAP - Warriors utility Elijah Taylor is to reunite with his former coach Ivan Cleary at Penrith in the 2014 NRL season.

Warriors football general manager Dean Bell said the Auckland-based club did all they could over the past 12 months to re-sign three-Test Kiwi Taylor.

Taylor has agreed to join Penrith, who are coached by former Warriors mentor Cleary.

The 23-year-old made his NRL debut in April 2011 and has made 44 first-grade appearances, scoring six tries. He was named the Warriors' Clubman of the Year in 2012.

"While it's disappointing he's going, our recruitment and development operation is in the best shape it has ever been," Bell said.

"Elijah is one of many young players who have come through our system recently and there are many more to come."

Usually a backrower, Taylor will operate at hooker in place of the injured Nathan Friend when the Warriors open their season away to Parramatta on Saturday night.
