Wales squad for France International
by NRL

have released their 21-man squad from which they will select their team to face France at The Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium on Saturday (kick-off 2:30pm).

There are four players from each of Wales' professional clubs, South Wales Scorpions and North Wales Crusaders.

Two of the Crusaders who are two of the nine potential debutants in the squad, are Wrexham-born brothers Owain and Iwan Brown, both former Wales Student internationals who will hope to make their full test debuts on home turf.

Denbigh-born Kriss Wilkes as well as Christiaan Roets, who has been fighting off a hamstring injury but did train with the Wales squad last week, join their North Wales Crusaders team-mates.

Mynydd-Isa born Rhys Williams, on Warrington Wolves' books but currently on loan to Castleford Tigers, is the fourth North Wales born player, giving the side very much of a local feel. Currently on top form with his club, he needs to score just two tries to overtake his coach Iestyn Harris as Wales' record try scorer.

South Wales Scorpions have Joe Burke, Lewis Reece, potential debutant David James and try-machine Steve Parry in the squad.

Wales coach Iestyn Harris has had to make changes from his 2011 Four Nations squad due to injuries, retirements and unavailability.

Lee Briers, who has now joined the Wales' coaching staff, has since quit the international game after scoring 100 points for his country, while Mark Lennon, Chris Beasley and Ian Watson also retired from Wales with honour after last year's tournament.

Wales are also unable to call on their Australian-based players Andrew Gay, Lee Williams, Ian Webster, Tyson Frizell, Matt Seamark and Neil Budworth but they will all potentially return for the end of season games.

This means that a number of Welsh youngsters will get the chance to shine on the big stage.

Castleford Tigers' Daniel Fleming joins his experienced team-mate Jacob Emmitt in the squad for the first time while Leeds Rhinos' Ollie Olds, London Broncos' Michael Channing, Wigan Warriors' Rhys Pugsley and Keighley Cougars' Craig moss are other potential debutants.

Wales coach Iestyn Harris said: "We'll have a squad with a mixture of youth and experience. There will be a few debutants who are supported by some old hands.

"This match against France is an essential part of our preparations for the 2013 World Cup which we are jointly hosting here in Wales. It will enable us to showcase the Welsh talent that we have in both Super League and those who are coming through the ranks at various levels of the game. The French game will be a big test for our young side against an experienced French outfit and it will give us a good viewpoint as to how far we've progressed as a nation over the last two years.

"I'm also looking forward to watching the Wales Students side this week who are being coached by Clive Griffiths. Wales Students have a long history of developing professional and full international players and I'm sure this tournament will show off the strength we have here in Wales at that level. Good luck to the Wales Students and I hope they win back their trophy for the first time since 2009."
