by NRLCronulla and NSW five-eighth Todd Carney has spoken out for the first time since rumours about testing positive to drugs emerged during the State of Origin series.
The 26-year-old said, "I usually laugh at a lot of things, it's quite petty a lot of the things they [fans] do say.
''But once you go and see your sponsor and that's one of the things they bring up, it's hard to give an answer to. I also got a phone call late at night from my mum because she got a phone call from someone, who I don't know how they got her number, to tell her. That's the worst bit - when your family gets involved. I kept it from her because I knew it wasn't true, so I didn't need her to worry about it.
"I was quite shocked that someone could make up something like that. I tweeted last week, that surely they could think of something a lot better. It's just stupid because I hadn't been tested in that time since February, so it was just wrong and as 'Flanno' said, it was disgraceful.''
