The thoughts of Gold Coast Titans are with winger David Mead and his family following the death of his father overnight.

Stephen Mead, 63, passed away in Brisbane overnight after a two year battle with cancer. A funeral will be held in Papua New Guinea in the coming days.

A decision on whether Mead takes to the field for the club against the New Zealand Warriors at Skilled Park on Saturday night will be made later this week.

A moment's silence will be held at the game in respect to Mr Mead.

Jetstar Titans Coach John Cartwright said the thoughts of the club were with David and his family.

"He's had a really horrible last couple of weeks, he lost a cousin that was very close to him and now he's lost his father so it's been a really tough time,'' said Cartwright.

"He knows that the club, and the boys in particular, are behind him.''
