GOLD COAST, Qld, Aug 9 AAP - Gold Coast will have just two foundation players at the NRL club next year after utility Luke O'Dwyer confirmed he was retiring at the season's end.

O'Dwyer, who joined the Titans for their inaugural NRL campaign in 2007, announced on Friday he will call time on his 10-year career to pursue his off-field business interests.

The 30-year-old's decision means just two players from the Titans' first season will be at the club next year in veteran forwards Mark Minichiello and Luke Bailey.

A versatile player who has played at centre, five-eighth, second-row and lock throughout his career, O'Dwyer has struggled to earn a place in the Titans first-grade team this year making only three appearances so far.

Monday night's clash with Canterbury in Sydney will be O'Dwyer's 100th for the Titans after spending the first three years of his career at Parramatta and he feels the time was right to end his career.

"I've been lucky to have played 10 seasons in the NRL and I'm glad that I've been able to play the majority of those in my hometown with the Titans," the Tweed Heads product said.

"I realise that my career can't go on forever and I've made the decision to start the next chapter of my life which will still be working in rugby league off the field."

O'Dwyer has established a sports management firm and will be employed by the Titans in a business development role at the end of the year.

Titans coach John Cartwright said O'Dwyer's versatility had made him a valuable, if underrated, asset during his time at the club.

"Chalky has been a great player for the club and the type of player that you can rely to a job in the forwards or the backs," Cartwright said.
