GOLD COAST, Jan 29 AAP - Gold Coast co-captain Nate Myles says he's aiming to test his groin in at least one of the NRL club's pre-season trials following off-season surgery.

Myles went under the knife to correct a groin issue which he carried through the latter months of the Titans' 2013 campaign as well as in Australia's successful World Cup tournament.

The 28-year-old Queensland State of Origin representative said he's recovering well from the surgery and is keen to test himself before the NRL season gets underway.

"Probably a little bit ahead at the moment," Myles told reporters at a promotion for Saturday's Gold Coast Junior Rugby League sign-on day which the Titans are hosting.

"I want to try and scrape a trial game in there but just see how it's going."

Myles' Test teammate Greg Bird also went under the surgeon's knife following his return from the World Cup.

The NSW back-rower had surgery to remove bone spurs from around his right elbow which were causing inflammation and forced him to have fluid drained from the site following most matches last year.

Bird has resumed contact work at training and says he's still hopeful of being fit to take part in the NRL Nines competition in Auckland starting on February 14.

"It feels alright. It's still got a couple of weeks until I have to test it out physically," he said.

"I'll do it in training before I actually do it in a game but it does feel alright now. I did a contact session on Saturday with the under-20s and it felt alright. I strapped it up and haven't had a problem with it since."
