Three more added to Kiwis World Cup squad

Experienced forwards Jeremy Smith and Issac Luke and winger Bryson Goodwin have been called into the New Zealand train-on squad for the rugby league World Cup after their clubs were eliminated in the NRL semi-finals.

WELLINGTON, Oct 2 AAP - Experienced forwards Jeremy Smith and Issac Luke and winger Bryson Goodwin have been called into the New Zealand train-on squad for the rugby league World Cup after their clubs were eliminated in the NRL semi-finals.

The inclusion of South Sydney Rabbitohs pair Luke and Goodwin and Newcastle Knights forward Smith stretches the size of the Kiwis squad to 30.

Goodwin played the last of his four Tests in 2009 while hooker Luke and lock Smith are experienced internationals who have both earned 24 Test caps.

A number of World Cup contenders are also involved in the NRL grand final between the Manly Sea Eagles and Sydney Roosters on Sunday.

A Kiwis squad of 24 for the tournament will be named next Tuesday.
