SYDNEY, June 5 AAP - Wests Tigers are adamant James Tedesco's belated decision to stick with the club is a plus for the NRL.

The rookie fullback turned his back on a big money move to Canberra late on Wednesday after initially agreeing to terms with the Raiders last week.

The move has further muddied the already murky contract situation in the NRL, highlighted also by Canterbury's move to renege on a deal with Cronulla forward Andrew Fifita earlier this year.

But in committing to a future at the club which has brought him through the grade, Tedesco's backflip is a good thing for rugby league, says Tigers coach Mick Potter.

"It shows something about the club and the players that we do have that he is going to sacrifice money to stay and play with his mates," Potter said at training on Thursday.

"That is a big plus for the club and a big plus for rugby league that players want to stay and play with people they have grown up with.

"The players are buzzing this morning.

"It is a case of he is happy to be here and he always wanted to stay.

"It's not a slight on anyone but he just wants to play with his mates.

"For young Ted it is a learning curve it is probably something he didn't think all the way through.

"There was on a time delay really, there were some issues he hadn't covered.

"He felt the pressure of that and probably tipped the wrong way as it turned out for him."

Tedesco's retention is the last in a number of promising youngsters who have recommitted to the joint venture recently including Aaron Woods, Luke Brooks, Mitchell Moses, Curtis Sironen and David Nofoaluma.

Potter said Tedesco's turnaround was a significant vote of confidence in the future of the club.

"The players are building something here," he said.

"They are getting on with business, they are growing together as far as their playing ability.

"They are enjoying what they are developing.

"I'm really proud of what they are doing at the moment.

"By no means have we done anything or accomplished anything but the players see the potential."
