BRISBANE, May 6 AAP - A week after ending uncertainty about his representative plans, veteran Brent Tate has extended his NRL career by another season.

Tate, 32, has re-signed with North Queensland until the end of the 2015 season.

It comes after Tate was boosted when chosen as 18th man for Australia at last week's trans-Tasman Test.

Tate said that Test squad call-up helped him end months of confusion and again declare his eligibility for Queensland this year as they look to seal an unprecedented ninth straight State of Origin series win.

Now that Origin career could also continue into next season as well.

"I've really loved my time in North Queensland so it's great that I'll be able to stay here at the Cowboys for at least another season and a half," Tate said.

"I think I still have plenty to offer the club and happily they think the same way."

Tate's re-signing puts him on track to reach the 100 game milestone for North Queensland and easily crack the 250 career match barrier.

He currently sits on 63 games for North Queensland which he joined in 2011 and 225 overall.

Tate - who has come back from three knee reconstructions - has played 21 Origins and 26 games for Australia including the 2013 World Cup.

"Tatey is one of the NRL's most inspirational players and he's still playing rugby league of the highest calibre, Cowboys football manager Peter Parr said.
