CANBERRA, Sept 16 AAP - Just like his critics, Ricky Stuart has an opinion on whether his short stint at Parramatta left the struggling NRL club better or worse off.

But that doesn't mean he's willing to share it with the public.

The newly instated Canberra coach addressed a media conference at the club on Monday to formally announce his three-year deal with the Raiders.

It came only days after he suddenly left repeat wooden spooners Parramatta just one year into a three-year deal.

The Eels finished last with just six wins in the 2012 season before Stuart signed on, then only managed to scrape together five wins with Stuart at the helm in 2013.

Needless to say, the whole saga has left Eels fans scathing.

Parramatta great Peter Sterling claims Stuart owes it to the Eels faithful to explain how his brief tenure as coach has not represented a wasted 12 months.

When asked if he felt he had left his former club better or worse off after his one year stint, Stuart replied: "That's been a question that has been asked a lot over the last three or four days, I've got my own opinion on that, people can have their own opinion," he said.

"I can't change the opinion of others. I'm not here to be looking at anything more negative than what's been going on."

Well, what's his opinion then?

"I've got my opinion, I don't necessarily have to make it public."
