Storm finished the half strongly, finally managing to take a stranglehold on the contest entering the main break. The familiar combination of Smith, Slater and Cronk all joined forces to send Will Chambers over the try-line on the stroke of half time to hand them a 10 point lead entering the break handing the homes side the momentum.
The Bronco's kicked off the second as they did the first putting enormous pressure on Melbourne's defensive line. However, the Storm line held strong and managed to withstand the Brisbane pressure to turn defence into attack to consolidate their lead.
Cronk combined with Lowrie who continued his white hot form of the first half palming off a chance at a hat-trick to assist Billy Slater for what was the fullback's first NRL try since Round 5.
Ben Te'o gave the visitor's some hope when he crossed in the 52nd minute but Slater and Justin O'Neill's two length of the field tries saw Melbourne hold off the second placed Broncos.
On debut, prop Michael Greenfield was forced from the field in the second half after a head clash lead to concussion concerns.
Brisbane's David Hala was carried off the ground with a knee injury and forced the Broncos to play the final 8 minutes a man down with 12 players.
