has signed powerful Newcastle front rower Lisiate (Richie) Fa'aoso for the remainder of the 2012 season.

The club commenced discussions with Fa'aoso for a mid-season transfer recently, with the intention of securing him to its NRL squad before the June 30 deadline.

Melbourne Storm GM Football Operations, Frank Ponissi, said the signing of Fa'aoso was a welcome addition to Storm's NRL squad.

"An opportunity came up to add some depth to our forward stocks as we come into the important final stage of the season," Ponissi said.

"We see Richie's signing as a chance to bring some further experience and strength to our roster."

The former Tongan International commenced his first grade rugby league career in 2004 with Penrith, before spending time at the Roosters and Eels. He joined the Knights in 2008 where he has played 99 games, for a career total of 131 NRL matches.

Fa'aoso will commence with Melbourne Storm immediately.
