SYDNEY, July 5 AAP - A Todd Carney-inspired Cronulla have dominated the first half of Friday's clash with the Wests Tigers to open up a 24-0 lead at halftime.

Despite not having the services of skipper Paul Gallen, Michael Gordon and Beau Ryan due to injury, the Sharks looked sharp from the opening set against a Tigers side that have won four of their last five matches.

Wade Graham opened the scoring for the home side after 10 minutes at the newly-named Remondis Stadium thanks to a large slice of luck that saw Carney's kick cannon off Robbie Farah's shins and into the arms of the back-rower.

Sharks winger Nathan Stapleton then stretched the lead when he raced 95 metres to score after Farah failed to find the end-goal area with a grubber kick with Carney adding the extras.

Carney continued to toy with the visitors and he pulled out a brilliant 40-20 kick that gave his side great field position midway through the opening stanza.

The former Sydney Rooster then set up makeshift centre Luke Lewis with a masterful crossfield kick that was brilliantly hauled in by the NSW star for his third try of the season.

The Sharks' then rounded off an almost flawless half of football with an outstanding fourth try from former Tigers prop Andrew Fifita.

The front-rower, who was one of the few NSW players to emerge with any credit from the defeat in the second State of Origin clash, produced a sumptuous left-foot step that fooled James Tedesco then raced 50 metres to the line.
