BRISBANE, June 29 AAP - Cronulla have produced a dominant first-half display over Brisbane to be positioned for their first win at Suncorp Stadium in eight years.

The Sharks went into halftime with a 16-6 advantage but could have led by more if not for a controversial disallowed try to fullback Matthew Wright.

The visitors put on 16 points in as many minutes as they outmuscled the undermanned Broncos pack and then looked to have scored their fourth try when Wright touched down in the 20th minute.

Opposition fullback Josh Hoffman had the ball jolted free by a huge in-goal tackle by Wade Graham, allowing Wright to pounce.

Referee Gavin Badger immediately awarded a try before calling for a video review which ultimately saw Graham penalised for a shoulder charge on Hoffman.

Utility Graham, playing at lock with Paul Gallen on Origin duty, had been instrumental in building the visitors' early lead, setting up their first try to Colin Best before scoring their second from a Chad Townsend cross-kick.

Five-eighth Townsend also hit pay-dirt with another bomb in the 16th minute when centre Ben Pomeroy swivelled out of a Jack Reed tackle to score.

The Sharks have only tasted victory once in 12 trips to Suncorp Stadium, back in 2004, and looked certainties to end their drought before video referee Bernard Sutton denied Wright's four-pointer.

With a groggy Hoffman replaced, youngster Aaron Whitchurch was able to score on NRL debut as the Broncos worked their way back into the game late in the half.
