GOLD COAST, May 16 AAP - They're renowned for it and Matt Scott doesn't think Queensland selectors are about to ditch loyalty ahead of this month's State of Origin opener.

Scott believes injured forward Sam Thaiday will be given every chance to prove his fitness before the May 28 game one clash in Brisbane.

He's also backed out-of-sorts Chris McQueen and Josh Papalii to be in the team when it's revealed by coach Mal Meninga on Monday.

Thaiday's niggling calf injury means if he's picked the 28-year-old will go into the game having not played for over a month after he was ruled out Brisbane's team to play rivals Gold Coast on Friday night.

Scott thinks Thaiday has earned the trust of selectors and shouldn't be overlooked despite his injury woes.

"Sammy in particular will be given as much time as he can given what he's done for the team," Scott said.

"He's a big part of the Maroons.

"He's played on the edge there for a while now. He does a really good job there for us, has done for a long time."

McQueen and Papalii's positions are under threat due solely to a lack of form, with both having been axed from South Sydney and Canberra's first-grade teams for a period this season.

Test front-rower Scott, who will be one of the first names selectors will write down on their squad list given his stellar recent form for North Queensland, believes both will be given the benefit of the doubt.

"They (selectors) are very loyal so Josh and Chris have got really good chances still," he said.

"If they're fit and healthy I expect they'll be around about."

Scott is also backing Cowboys teammate James Tamou to be on the NSW teamsheet for game one after his recent club form.

"I thought the last two weeks in particular has been some of the best footy he's played for us," Scott said.

"It's really good to see him charging forward."
