Saudi Arabia Schools have successfully defended their under 16s MENA Championship after a 14-8 win over Lebanon in the deciding game held at the AUB's Charles Hostler Student Center in Beirut.

LRLF's guest of honour for the winner-takes-all clash was Australia Ambassador to Lebanon, his Excellency Lex Bartlem, who was on hand to witness the epic clash.

The Junior Cedars looked to move the ball wide whenever possible but the Saudi's superb scrambling defence saw the hosts denied several opportunities.

In the opening half both sides registered a try apiece to go in level at 4-4 and it was still all square at 8-all with barely a minute remaining and Lebanon looking like taking the title on point's difference after both nations had beaten Palestine.

With virtually the final play, Farid Adbulwahab crashed over for the Camels to secure a dramatic win.

Four players will now be selected to travel to train and play with Super League clubs Harlequins and Warrington, later in the year.

Rayan Tout, the Junior Cedars Head coach said, "We have a nice rivalry with these guys. Each time we play, the game is more physical than the last and the score is always close. Our forwards played particularly well, dominating set pieces, and our backs moved the ball around them.

"All round, our team did great. I feel sorry for our boys but I am so proud of the effect they showed and good luck to the KSA boys, they were very good too."

His Excellency Lex Bartlem commented, "It is wonderful to see how Rugby League, a sport close to the hearts of many Australians, has developed in Lebanon since it was first introduced here in 2002.

"Sport is not only one of the easiest ways to develop strong cultural links between people and countries; it is also one of the most effective ways to develop character, leadership, cultural tolerance, and understanding among youth. I am please to support Rugby League in Lebanon."
