by NRL

After last weeks blow out in scores, it has shown that this years Bartercard Cup is very unpredictable. The start of the year has been filled with close results including five drawn matches, and only three points separates the top position from the ninth position. This week will see the top teams start to sought them selves out as the Bartercard Cup nears halfway point of the 16 round competition. Match of the round sees Marist Richmond Brothers vs Otahuhu Ellerslie at Murray Halberg Park on Saturday.

The Falcons welcome back several players from Russia, and will be looking to them to provide the spark that they lacked in the last two rounds. They will need to stop the leak of points at their home ground, conceding 148 points in their three matches at home in 2004. The Bulls have struggled away from home this year, winning one of their three matches. They also have the best attacking record in the Cup, and will be looking to put on a huge score against the Falcons. Marist has been in excellent form so far this year, winning three of their five matches with one draw. They come off a two point victory in a high scoring match against the Tornadoes last week, and will be looking to keep their 100% record at home this year. Waicoa Bay Stallions vs Wellington Davies Park, Huntly 3.00pm Kick Off

Undefeated Stallions will host the up and down Wellington in Huntly this week. It took 40 minutes for the Stallions to click into gear last week against bottom placed Falcons, and they wont be-able to give a team of this nature an advantage like that. Wellington last week was beaten heavily by the Bulls in Christchurch, and need to improve immensely if they have any chance of knocking over the top team at their home ground. A loss here for Wellington could see them start to lose pace with the top five teams, due to the closeness of this years competition. Wellington will be looking to star players Jamie Macdonald, Simon Mannering and Manu to provide the spark that saw them demolish the Raiders to weeks ago. Waicoa will start life with out star halfback Hayden Karen who is off to Australia to play for the Queensland Comets, a feeder club for North Queensland Cowboy. Karena has been key player for the Stallionst, scoring 38 points including one try and 17 conversions in four games, ranking him fifth in the comp in scoring, and kicking goals at a 77 per cent success rate.

Glenora Bears vs Mt Albert Lions Harold Moody Recreation Ground, Auckland 2.30pm Kick Off

The Bears are looking for their second win of the season and to carry on their march up the table. The Bears started the season last on the table, and have slowly moved up two places after recording two draws and a win in their last three matches. The Lions sit fifth on the table after three wins, including two wins in a row. Its should be an entertaining clash, but the Lions should have to much power in attacking and should beat the Bears comfortably. But don't underestimate the Bears, with coach Geoff Morton sure to have the Bears in top mode for this match.

North Harbour Tigers vs Hibiscus Coast Raiders North Harbour Stadium, Auckland 2.30pm Kick Off

The Tigers have never beaten the Raiders in the three years if the Bartercard Cup. And this will be the perfect time to register their first victory against their neighbouring team. They take on a struggling Raiders team this Sunday at North Harbour Stadium. The Raiders concede on average 36 points a match and have the second worse defence in the Bartercard Cup. The Tigers will be hurting after last weeks shock loss to the Bears, and will look to the speed they have on the flanks to break the fragile defence of the Raiders. Expect the Tigers to put on a big victory in front of their home crowed.
