SYDNEY, Sept 14 AAP - Roger Tuivasa-Sheck's unconverted try is all that separates the Sydney Roosters and Manly in a high-quality NRL qualifying final clash at Allianz Stadium.

The 21-year-old Kiwi winger pounced after eight minutes when he reacted quickest to latch onto a James Maloney grubber-kick and give his side a 4-0 lead at halftime.

But the Roosters were than forced to withstand a Manly onslaught with Daly Cherry-Evans grassing a tryscoring opportunity after a blistering run from David Williams following a Jamie Lyon pass.

Glenn Stewart was held up over the line by the desperate Roosters defence in what was a fast-paced opening 40 minutes.

The opening game of Saturday's double-header saw Cronulla beat North Queensland 20-18 in a game blighted by more controversial refereeing decisions after Beau Ryan scored a try off the seventh tackle in the eighth minute.
