A massive defensive effort was the catalyst as the Sydney Roosters stormed to a 24-6 victory over the Wests Tigers in front of just over 20,000 fans at the SFS.

The Roosters looked in control throughout the entire match continually holding the Tigers out with well organised defence and plenty of aggression in attack.

A number of changes were made prior to the match, Tinirau Arona was handed his first grade debut in place of the injured Frank Paul Nuuausala.

Daniel Conn was also handed a jersey for his first run for the season.

The match also brought Roosters stalwart Anthony Minichello one step closer to the all-time club try scoring record. Mini now sits on 103 tries for the club one behind Roosters legend Bill Mullins.

The only time the Chooks looked threatened was in the opening two minutes when Tim Moltzen dived over the line, only for young Roosters winger Joseph Leilua and centre Mitch Aubusson to somehow force a knock on.

Shaun Kenny-Dowall then showed why he was the world's best centre last year unleashing his right foot step twice before stretching out to put the Roosters up by four.

The Roosters were dominating field position and Martin Kennedy took full advantage palming off Robbie Farah to crash over under the posts to put the Tri-colours up by ten after only fifteen minutes.

Intensity levels in both attack and defence were obvious as the red, white and blues dominated general play.

Captain Braith Anasta slotted over a penalty goal in the 35th minute to extend the lead to two converted tries heading in to the break.

The Tigers hit back straight after the break, a clever pass from Farah let young prop Aaron Woods fall over the line to make it 12-6.

It was all the Roosters after that, two line breaks had the chooks on the front foot.

Some clever blind side play and a lovely inside flick from Leilua set up Anthony Minichello for his second try of the season to extend the lead to two converted tries.

Mini was then controversially sin-binned with ten minutes to go for allegedly striping the ball in the play the ball.

It didn't help the Tigers though as the Roosters put in a superb defensive performance to shut the Tigers out of the match.

Todd Carney added the final nail in the coffin running around the fullback to finish off a neat series of passes between Riddell and Pearce to end the match twenty four points to six.

The impressive display has added a much needed boost to the Steggles Charity Nest which is now up to $36,250.

The team now travels to the land of the Long White Cloud to take on the Warriors on Saturday night.
