SYDNEY, Feb 21 AAP - South Sydney have suffered a blow ahead of Saturday night's Charity Shield match against St George Illawarra, with halfback Adam Reynolds ruled out with a knee problem.

The Rabbitohs insist the points-scoring wizard will be available for their round-one NRL clash with the Sydney Roosters in a fortnight, but don't want to risk him for their final trial match.

Souths are already reeling from news five-eighth Luke Keary will miss the majority of the season with a torn pectoral muscle.

To lose their No.1 playmaker Reynolds for any length of time would severely impact their chances of getting off to a strong start in 2014.

Reynolds strained a small muscle in his knee at training and Souths will decide close to kick-off who will slot into halfback.

The Bunnies could move captain John Sutton from lock back to the halves, blood young hooker Apisai Koroisaui or bring fullback Alex Johnston into the starting line-up.
