The generosity and kindness of almost 300 Townsville families will be highlighted in Community Corner at Friday night's NRL blockbuster between the North Queensland Cowboys and Brisbane Broncos at Dairy Farmers Stadium.

Representatives from the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services will showcase their foster and kinship carers who offer up their time, effort and love to Queensland's most vulnerable children.

They hope the exposure they will receive by being part of the Queensland derby will help them recruit even more North Queensland families to be a part of their Foster and Kinship Care Initiative.

In Townsville alone, almost 300 carer families share the care of almost 500 children and young people.

There is always a need for more foster carers, including respite carers who can care for children just a few hours a week or one day a weekend to give fulltime carers a break.

A number of foster and kinship carers and children in care will be at Dairy Farmers as special guests of the Cowboys.

Community Corner is a feature of each Cowboys home game at Dairy Farmers and the Foster and Kinship Care Initiative will stock its stall with information on the program as well as free balloons and children's activities.

Not-for-profit organisations are offered the opportunity to promote and raise awareness of their cause. They each have a charter to contribute to or benefit the community and operate through the contribution of volunteers, fundraising efforts and some government assistance.

"I'm sure Cowboys members and supporters will be very interested to see and hear about the Foster and Kinship Initiative," Cowboys CEO Peter Jourdain said.

"We're delighted that so many of the families and children will be able to come along to what should be a fantastic night of rugby league."
