Canberra begin their post-David Furner era today desperate for a win over Manly at home to keep their NRL finals hopes alive.

Furner was sacked midweek after a player uprising following a disappointing year for the Raiders, with assistant coach Andrew Dunemann taking over.

In today's other game Melbourne are expected to make light work of Parramatta in the Victorian capital.

Last night North Queensland's late season surge continued with a 26-6 win over Newcastle, with Knights prop Kade Snowden sent off for a second half high tackle on Ray Thompson which broke the Cowboys hooker's jaw.

Gold Coast's playoff hopes took a hit courtesy of a 24-22 loss to the Warriors.

While young gun Luke Brooks inspired Wests Tigers to a 34-18 win over St George Illawarra at the SCG on his NRL debut.
