CANBERRA, Aug 13 AAP - Canberra representative forward Tom Learoyd-Lahrs is confident he'll make a timely NRL return against the Bulldogs this Saturday after spending three months on the sideline with a torn foot ligament.

Learoyd-Lahrs' experience and leadership would be a welcome boost for the Raiders, who expect to be without captain and fellow Australian representative Terry Campese after he suffered accidental friendly fire to the eye during Saturday's 28-22 loss to the Roosters.

While Campese will undergo a second series of scans on Tuesday afternoon to assess the extent of the damage, Learoyd-Lahrs believes his 12-match stint on the sidelines has drawn to a close.

"The injury is about as strong as it's going to get so I've just got to get the confidence in training," the 27-year-old said said.

"I'm confident that it should pull up fine."

The Raiders have fallen out of the top eight to ninth place after back-to-back losses to competition favourites the Melbourne Storm and the Roosters.

Yet the Green Machine's run towards the finals doesn't get any easier.

Their remaining four matches include three other top six sides and an away trip against fellow top eight contenders the Warriors.

"I'm hoping to inject a bit of enthusiasm and bit of energy to the side when I get back to make up for a bit of lost time," Learoyd-Lahrs said.

"Hopefully I'll be nice and fresh and bring something to the team."

With replacement Raiders playmaker Sam Williams spending the past couple of weeks out with an ankle injury, Learoyd-Lahrs backed young-gun fullback Anthony Milford to step up for Campese if called upon.

"He seems to have plenty of confidence in himself. Every time he's been thrown a challenge he's answered it well," he said.
