Redcliffe showed off their defensive prowess on their way to a 32-12 victory over the Tweed Heads Seagulls at Piggabeen on Sunday.

The Seagulls were held scoreless in the first half; while the Dolphins managed to pile on 20 points to set up the important win.

Bolstered by the late inclusion of a number of Gold Coast Titans, Tweed Heads were heavily favoured to continue their winning run so far - but the Dolphins showed that team consistency can beat out big names in crunch games.

The Dolphins took little time to score the first of their many points for the afternoon, with Delroy Berryman surprising everyone by darting over in only the third minute of the game.

While Redcliffe had the better of the attack throughout the half - both teams attempted to take their chances and Tweed defended well for much of the half.

However, it was a decisive passage just before halftime that ensured the win, with the Dolphins crossing for three tries in the space of 10 minutes.

Berryman got his second try against the run of play after running 80m to score, and impressive youngster Aaron Whitchurch added to the total only moments later after a Chris Faust pass found his man.

Already on the back foot - Tweed were pushed further behind when Nick Slyney burst through the defence from within his own half, linking with Maurice Kennedy whose pass to Zach Strasser before the line gifted him a try on his Intrust Super Cup debut.

After the break - the Dolphins were the first on the board again - this time through fullback Dane Gagai who used his rangy speed to burst through a hole and run downfield to score.

His eye-catching performance showed why there were numerous clubs who were keen to obtain his signature following his release from the Brisbane Broncos earlier in the week.

With the game having slipped away, Tweed finally got on the board in the 59th minute when Griffin - who was denied early in the afternoon - slammed the ball down after running on to a Beau Henry short pass to score.

But then any sniff of a comeback was extinguished when Berryman created space for Paul Ivan who used his immense size to wrest his way down to score.

Tweed did manage one more try via a Gold Coast connection when Henry collected his own chip ahead to pass to Ryan James who got the ball away to Ben Ridge to score.

But that was to be the final joy for the Seagulls who were not able to match the intensity shown by the victorious Dolphins side.

REDCLIFFE DOLPHINS 32 (Delroy Berryman 2, Dane Gagai, Aaron Whitchurch, Paul Ivan, Liam Georgetown, Zach Strasser tries; Liam Georgetown 2 goals) def TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS 12 (Ben Ridge, Rod Griffin tries; Brad Davis 2 goals) at Piggabeen Sports.
