Mackay speedster Michael Thomas scored a hat-trick of tries against the Central Capras as the in-form Cutters nailed a third-straight Intrust Super Cup victory on Friday night.

The Cutters made a blistering start to the Men of League Rivalry Round match, with man of the moment Thomas finishing off two movements in the right corner.

But the Cutters lost their way a little after the promising opening, with a number of handling mistakes allowing the Capras to get on the front foot.

The visitors were rewarded after an enterprising passage of play saw centre Mitch Zornig barge his way over. The Capras then crossed again to hit the lead but that was the last moment of joy for the Central Queensland team.

A neat pass from Cutters five-eighth Grant Rovelli put fullback David Milne over the line for the home team's third try of the evening. Matt Minto's conversion handed the Cutters a 14-12 half-time lead.

The second half belonged to the Cutters, with the likes of Rovelli, Milne and centre Michael Morgan finding plenty of open space.

The Cutters put the finishing touches to another strong performance when Morgan sent Thomas scurrying away down the right flank.

Morgan and Rovelli loomed in support but Thomas was able to stand up the Capras' last line of defence to bag his third.

Mackay coach Anthony Seibold will now turn his focus to Sunday's Channel 9 match against Souths Logan at Davies Park, while the Capras will prepare for their round 8 clash against the Burleigh Bears.

MACKAY CUTTERS 42 (Michael Thomas 3, David Milne 2, Michael Morgan, Luke Young, Tyson Andrews tries; Matt Minto 5 goals) def CENTRAL CAPRAS 12 (Mitch Zornig, Cheyenne Motu tries; Tyron Cranston 2 goals) at Virgin Australia Stadium.
