Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles handed the high-flying Redcliffe Dolphins their first defeat of the season, with a spectacular 36-20 victory in front of a vocal home crowd.

The Dolphins had the upper hand in the beginning, playing much of the opening minutes in the opposition half.

The prolonged pressure paid off, as winger Liam Georgetown crossed for the first points of the game in the 10th minute. He added the extras to take the score to 6-0.

The Sea Eagles managed to defend their try line, turning defence into attack in a great show of patience under pressure.

They made the most of their rare opportunities in the first half, scoring through Rowan Klein in the 26th minute to reduce the lead to 6-4.

Ten minutes later the Sea Eagles were in again, this time from interchange forward Kane Richards. The successful conversion saw them open a 10-6 lead.

From the kickoff, the Dolphins forced an error, before making the most of their attacking opportunity to score out wide through centre Marty Hatfield.

On the half time hooter, Aaron Whitchurch managed to break the line again for the Dolphins, with Georgetown's successful conversion giving them a 16-10 lead at the break.

The second half was a completely different story, with Sunshine Coast dominating from the outset.

Richards grabbed his second of the game in the 50th minute, pouncing from dummy half to level the scores following Dale Middleton's conversion.

They hit the lead again in the 55th minute, as fullback Hughie Stanley showed spectacular skill to sidestep his way through the defence and sprint 25m to score.

Minutes later, Stanley was in the thick of the action again, denied a certain four pointer as he lost control of the ball. He made amends soon after, throwing the decisive pass that allowed Middleton to cross for his first try of the day.

Redcliffe seemed to lose all composure when under pressure, the out-of-sorts Dolphins giving away cheap field position as they conceded penalties and made simple handling errors.

Sunshine Coast made them pay in the 68th minute when Middleton crossed the line for his second try, his successful conversion giving him a personal haul of 20 points.

With the score at 36-16, Redcliffe would've been forgiven for giving up.
Showing true heart, they kept attacking, and were repaid in the 72nd minute when Georgetown crossed for his second try.

The Dolphins face Souths Logan Magpies next Sunday at Dolphin Oval, where they will want to ensure they are back to their best. The Sea Eagles will be at home to the Norths Devils, and will want to keep the momentum rolling in the Channel Nine game.
