This time last year Wynnum Manly coach Paul Green was looking for answers after the Seagulls lost their fourth match in succession.

Last night, the Seagulls of 2012 notched their fourth win from as many attempts to maintain their standing at the top of the Intrust Super Cup ladder.

The 24-6 victory over the Norths Devils at Bishop Park won't be their most spectacular of the season, but it was enough to keep Green happy.

"I was really pleased with our defence," the former Broncos and Queensland halfback said.

Wynnum Manly threatened to blow the Devils off the park in the first half after running in three early tries to lead 18-0.

But points were much harder to come by in the second half.

"We got a bit excited - we just didn't execute," Green lamented.

"We had plenty of opportunities but we just lacked a bit of execution at times."

Green said the Devils, who were well served by captain and halfback Matt Smith, would trouble most teams in the competition.

"They're a better side than where they are on the ladder," he said.

With matches to come against the Easts Tigers, Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles and the Redcliffe Dolphins, Green knows the Seagulls will have to be at the top of their game.

"It's great to be four from four, but we've got three really big weeks ahead of us," he said.

The defending premiers could have recruits Nat Barnes and Troyden Watene back from injury next weekend.

But one player who won't be taking any further part in their quest for back-to-back premierships is young centre Matt Grieve, who tore his ACL in the round two win over the Central Capras.

"He had a really good off-season, I thought he was in for a really good year," Green said of the Bundaberg product.

Green is also expecting to be without Broncos forward Mitchell Dodds in the near future.

"He still needs a bit of match fitness but he'll be back up there sooner rather than later," Green said.

WYNNUM MANLY SEAGULLS 24 (Sean Loxley, Mitchell Dodds, Jake Granville, Dan Wallace tries; Matt Seamark 4 goals) def NORTHS DEVILS 6 (Jamie Muller try; Mitchell Frei goal) at Bishop Park.
