Tweed Heads recovered from a fierce first-half onslaught from Mackay last night to snatch the points over the Cutters in their round four match at Virgin Australia Stadium.

With the breeze behind them, the Cutters stormed to a 22-12 half-time lead on the back of tries from Bureta Faraimo, Liam Taylor, Grant Rovelli and Tyson Martin.

The points all came in a devastating 20 minute blitz from the home team, which quite incredibly conceded the opening two tries to be 12-0 down at one stage.

Mackay couldn't maintain the rage in the second half, with their only points coming via a penalty goal as the Seagulls established their authority to run out 36-24 winners.

Tweed coach Ben Anderson said it was easily the Seagulls' best performance in the opening four rounds.

"In the second half we came home strong," Anderson said.

"They (Mackay) probably ran out of legs running into the wind."

Anderson was delighted with his big men, particularly the likes of Aaron Cannings, Tom Kingston and Jake Leary.

Mackay has just the one win to show from the opening four weeks, but Anderson says the Cutters are still a class act.

"I think they're a top five side," Anderson said of Anthony Seibold's team, which next weekend plays a Burleigh Bears outfit that is also one from four.

The Tweed is likely to be without playmaker Beau Henry (wrist) for their match against the Ipswich Jets at Piggabeen.

TWEED HEADS SEAGULLS 36 (Tom Merritt 2, Joe Vickery, James Wood, Matt Hundy, Matt King, Aaron Cannings tries; Brad Davis 4 goals) def MACKAY CUTTERS 24 (Bureta Faraimo, Liam Taylor, Grant Rovelli, Tyson Martin tries; Matt Minto 4 goals) at Virgin Australia Stadium.
