The Norths Devils kept their 2013 finals aspirations alive with a 28-10 victory over the Burleigh Bears at Pizzey Park yesterday.

Namila Davui notched a double for the Devils, who need to beat the Redcliffe Dolphins at Bishop Park on Sunday to be a chance of forcing their way into the top five.

The Bears blooded teenagers Daniel Schwass and second-rower Caleb Morehu in yesterday’s match on the Gold Coast. They came off the bench to make their Intrust Super Cup debuts, drawing praise from coach Carl Briggs.

“It’s a big ask for an 18-year-old who six months ago was playing Mal Meninga Cup in the under 18s,” Briggs said of Schwass.

“He’s got a massive future in the game and the more he gets exposed to this level of football the better he will be.

“Caleb Morehu looked like a player who had already played 20 games of Intrust Super Cup. He came on and injected a lot of enthusiasm with the way he played.”

Norths Devils 28 (Namila Davui 2, Daniel Ogden, Brendon Gibb, Lachlan Maranta tries; Angus Cameron 4 goals) def Burleigh Bears 10 (Jordan Rankin, Brad Smith tries; Jordan Rankin goal) at Pizzey Park.
