A five star performance from prop Louie Fanene and a classy attacking display from halfback Todd Seymour guided the Burleigh Bears to an upset 32-26 victory over Wynnum Manly at Pizzey Park.

Fanene's strong surges through the middle set the platform for the Bears, who stunned the defending premiers by taking an 18-6 lead into half-time.

Wynnum Manly did however enjoy a glut of possession early in the first half.

But much to coach Carl Briggs' delight, the Bears restricted the Seagulls to a single try.

Burleigh grew in confidence after repelling the Seagulls and finished the half with three tries to set the wheels in motion for a memorable win.

Former Mackay halfback Seymour was in everything for the Bears.

"That was probably his best game of the season," said Briggs, whose team scored two quick tries after half-time to lead 28-6.

Wynnum kept coming at the Bears, but left their run too late with their last two tries coming inside the final three minutes.

The rejuvenated Bears will now look to finish their season with a win over the Sunshine Coast in the final round.

"To be honest, next week's probably a bigger challenge," Briggs said.

"If they win they get off the bottom of the ladder. We don't want to go up to the Sunshine Coast and get beaten because we'll take that into the pre-season then."

Despite the loss, Wynnum Manly have secured second place but coach Paul Green will be looking for an improved performance against Mackay in the final round next weekend.

BURLEIGH BEARS 32 (Todd Seymour 2, Ethan Mafi, Kevin Nilan, Darren Griffiths, Danny Kerr tries; Jordan Rankin 4 goals) def WYNNUM MANLY SEAGULLS 26 (Luke Dalziel-Don 2, Dan Wallace, Sean Loxley, John Te Reo tries; Matt Seamark 3 goals) at Pizzey Park.
