Buoyed by a big home crowd, the Wynnum Manly Seagulls were able to overcome a spirited Norths Devils side 24-18 at BMD Kougari Oval.

In an entertaining game - the top-of-the-table Seagulls were pushed all the way by the Devils who managed to tie things up at 18-18 with less than 10 minutes to go in the game.

In a closely-fought first half - it was Wynnum who were first on the board in the 15th minute of the match when a leaping Junior Togia latched onto a kick and brought it down next to the touchline.

Their next however, came through the middle, with skipper Luke Dalziel Don picking up the first of his two tries when he showed his strength to break through the Devils defenders.

Despite being denied on numerous occasions, the visitors kept attacking the Seagulls line.

They eventually earned a line dropout which they used to their full advantage, with Jay Aston scoring their first try with five minutes left in the half to go into the break trailing 12-6.

The start of the second half was another physical affair with both sides working hard to gain the upper hand.

After dominating much of the possession, Wynnum were in again through an easy run to the line from Dalziel Don and it seemed they would run away with the game after posting an 18-6 lead.

Norths however had other ideas and quickly levelled the scores - firstly through a quick run by Daniel Ogden after a scrum and again via centre Namila Davui - setting up an exciting finish.

However, Wynnum continued their winning ways when the ever-dangerous Jake Granville planted the ball over the line to clinch the win following a good elusive run by Jon Grieve with five minutes left on the clock.

Norths attacked right until the final siren - but were not able to crack the Seagulls defence and will next week host Easts Tigers in an important match.

WYNNUM MANLY SEAGULLS 24 (Luke Dalziel-Don 2, Junior Togia, Jake Granville tries; Matt Seamark 4 goals) def NORTHS DEVILS 18 (Daniel Ogden, Namila Davui, Jay Aston tries; Joel Bailey 3 goals) at BMD Kougari Oval.
