While a slow start threatened to derail their chances, the Norths Devils put on a second-half blitz to post an important 36-12 win over the Burleigh Bears in their round 12 game.

After a weekend of rain, a mostly dry Bishop Park greeted the two teams - and it was Burleigh who were out of the blocks early, putting Norths under pressure with repeated sets at their line.

However, despite capitalising somewhat when Steve Michaels crossed the line - the Bears didn't fully take advantage of their overwhelming possession which was handed to them by Norths who continued to be their own worst enemy - making too many errors and giving up too many penalties.

When they finally did get the ball - instead of going for the steady play, they tried to go for a risky chip ahead which did not come off - although it was a close thing.

With possession again in their favour, Burleigh's next try came after a Jordan Rankin kick was batted down, to find its way into the hands of Jesse Malcolm who added to the score.

Up to this point, Norths had been forced to do a lot of defending - but unlike Burleigh - when they got sustained use of the ball during the later stages of the half - they made it count.

Namila Davui - who had a good game - batted down a Matt Smith kick after a flying leap which saw Keiran English run in for the Devils first points of the afternoon.

A similar tactic was employed for their next try, but this time, Davui missed the bat down - but collected the generous bounce to run in himself to lock the scores at 12-12 with only one minute left in the half.

The next half started evenly, but this time it was Burleigh making the early mistakes, allowing Norths to take the lead when Chris Binge ran on to a short ball to score.

This started the match-winning passage of play for the Devils, who managed to pull everything together including crisp passing and offloading which saw them make easy metres up the field.

Speedster Daniel Ogden ran in for two tries and handed the home side a 30-12 lead which they never gave up, while Lachlan Maranta's try late in the game came rather innocuously after the Devils had been camped in Burleigh territory.

Despite their best efforts, Burleigh were held scoreless for the entire second half and will need to again renew their focus in attack when they play Redcliffe next weekend, while the Devils will have a spring in their step before taking on Tweed Heads.

NORTHS DEVILS 36 (Daniel Ogden 2, Namila Davui, Keiran English, Lachlan Maranta, Chris Binge tries; Sione Lolohea 3, Joel Bailey 3 goals) def BURLEIGH BEARS 12 (Jesse Malcolm, Steve Michaels tries; Jordan Rankin 2 goals) at Bishop Park.
