HOW THE TEAMS SHAPE UP FOR THE 2013 NRL GRAND FINAL

SYDNEY ROOSTERS

ANTHONY MINICHIELLO (capt)

Position: Fullback

Age: 33

Weight: 91kg

Height: 182cm

Premierships: 1

Captain courageous is the only survivor from the Roosters' last premiership triumph, way back in 2002. Age hasn't wearied Minichiello like some predicted and he's a proven big-game performer.

DANIEL TUPOU

Position: Wing

Age: 22

Weight: 99kg

Height: 195cm

Premierships: 0

Tall and wirey, Tupou's athleticism was there for all to see in the preliminary final win over Newcastle. Dynamic in the air and deceptively fast across the ground.

MICHAEL JENNINGS

Position: Centre

Age: 25

Weight: 94kg

Height: 180cm

Premierships: 0

Since debuting for Penrith in 2007, Jennings has always known his way to the try-line as if it's his front door. But under Trent Robinson at the Roosters, the NSW centre has matured and defence is now a strength. Blockbuster match-up against Manly skipper Jamie Lyon awaits.

SHAUN KENNY-DOWALL

Position: Centre

Age: 25

Weight: 102kg

Height: 194cm

Premierships: 0

Loyal servant of the Roosters now for many years, Kenny-Dowall faces a stern test facing brutal Manly centre Steve Matai. Experience gained from the Roosters' 2010 grand final loss to Mark Gasnier and the Dragons should help the gifted but error-prone SKD.

ROGER TUIVASA-SHECK

Position: Wing

Age: 20

Weight: 93kg

Height: 178cm

Premierships: 0

In a competition stacked with first-class wingers, 20-year-old Tuivasa-Sheck arguably stood atop the pile in 2013. The future of the Roosters backline is a freakish mover who scored the only try in the Roosters' epic 4-0 win over Manly in the opening week of the finals.

JAMES MALONEY

Position: Five-eighth

Age: 27

Weight: 83kg

Height: 176cm

Premierships: 0

The NSW No.6 has a habit of being in the right place at the right time and is looking to cap off a brilliant season. Went down to Kieran Foran and Manly in the 2011 grand final when he was wearing a Warriors jersey and will know what's required.

MITCHELL PEARCE

Position: Halfback

Age: 24

Weight: 91kg

Height: 182cm

Premierships: 0

Another half who has felt the pain of grand final defeat and who has the experience to do something about it. After another disappointing Origin campaign, this is a huge game in the career of Mitchell Pearce.

JARED WAEREA-HARGREAVES

Position: Prop

Age: 24

Weight:108kg

Height: 193cm

Premierships: 0

Possessing the size and aggression of Gorden Tallis, Waerea-Hargreaves holds claim to being the most fearsome forward in the game. Can walk a fine line between inspirational and illegal and won't want to let emotions get the better of him against old club Manly.

JAKE FRIEND

Position: Hooker

Age: 23

Weight: 92kg

Height: 175cm

Premierships: 0

It's been a breakout season from the Roosters' No.9. His defence has always been the pillar of his game, but his attacking kicks and short-passing close to the line has helped spearhead the Roosters' offence.

SAM MOA

Position: Prop

Age: 27

Weight: 105kg

Height: 183cm

Premierships: 0

Astute signing by coach Robinson from the English Super League, Moa has added tremendous balance to the Roosters' engine room.

AIDAN GUERRA

Position: Second row

Age: 25

Weight: 104kg

Height: 190cm

Premierships: 0

Dangerous hole runner who has an uncanny knack of finding the try-line with his awkward and determined frame.

SONNY BILL WILLIAMS

Position: Second row

Age: 28

Weight: 108kg

Height: 194cm

Premierships: 1

The best player across both rugby league and rugby union codes at the moment, without question. SBW has the skill, the size, but most importantly the toughness and game smarts to go with it. Will a win or loss be the difference in determining whether he stays in the NRL?

FRANK-PAUL NUUAUSALA

Position: Lock

Age: 26

Weight: 105kg

Height: 184cm

Premierships: 0

Another loyal clubman who has the ability to punch a hole and pop an offload.

INTERCHANGE

DANIEL MORTIMER

Position: Utility

Age: 24

Weight: 82kg

Height: 174cm

Premierships: 0

Doesn't get many minutes, but steady-head Mortimer has been a vital cog in the Roosters' machine this season, relieving Friend at dummy half.

MITCHELL AUBUSSON

Position: Second row

Age: 26

Weight: 98kg

Height: 181cm

Premierships: 0

Along with Guerra, Aubusson can hit a gap like few others in the game. Whole-hearted and hard-working.

ISSAC LIU

Position: Prop/second row

Age: 22

Weight: 103kg

Height: 182cm

Premierships: 0

Young forward has done the job asked of him by coach Robinson this year and will be hoping to win a grand final cap.

DYLAN NAPA

Position: Prop

Age: 20

Weight: 109kg

Height: 194cm

Premierships: 0

The red-headed hit-man has been a revelation in the second-half of the year. Will contribute to the Roosters' physical presence if given the nod.

LUKE O'DONNELL

Position: Prop/second row

Age: 32

Weight: 102kg

Height: 186cm

Premierships: 0

Missed the preliminary final with a hamstring injury, but if fit it's likely the hard-as-nails forward will make the cut despite not being named. O'Donnell is as experienced as any forward in the competition and has played grand finals, Tests and Origins.

BOYD CORDNER

Position: Back rower

Age: 21

Weight: 102kg

Height: 188cm

Premierships: 0

Also not named, but would be the ace up the sleeve for the Roosters should he be passed fit for the big dance. Before a broken ankle stopped him in his tracks, Cordner was the form back-rower of the comp and earned an Origin jersey for game three. Star of the future.

MANLY

BRETT STEWART

Position: Fullback

Age: 28

Weight: 92kg

Height: 184cm

Premierships: 2

Stewart's impact on last week's preliminary final can't be understated. If injuries hadn't held him back so much over the years, would the Manly No.1 be considered the best fullback in the NRL? Try-saving and try-scoring ability is almost second to none.

JORGE TAUFUA

Position: Wing

Age: 21

Weight: 102kg

Height: 184cm

Premierships: 0

Power winger who has scored a mountain of tries this year. Rep player of the future.

JAMIE LYON (capt)

Position: Centre

Age: 31

Weight: 93kg

Height: 182cm

Premierships: 2

The best centre in the game continues to make NSW wish he was willing to play Origin football. The inspirational skipper is a class act in every department and is the key element in Manly's match-winning right-side attack.

STEVE MATAI

Position: Centre

Age: 29

Weight: 94kg

Height: 182cm

Premierships: 2

The Sea Eagles' bruise brother who has scared opponents and inspired teammates for nearly a decade. Outstanding defender and can lift a side with his aggression.

DAVID WILLIAMS

Position: Wing

Age: 27

Weight: 95kg

Height: 184cm

Premierships: 1

The Wolfman has howled again in 2013, finishing as a joint top try scorer. His finish in the corner last week against Souths was a screamer, and on the end of Manly's right-side attack.

KIERAN FORAN

Position: Five-eighth

Age: 23

Weight: 89kg

Height: 180cm

Premierships: 1

A player with the tenacity of Foran doesn't need extra motivation, but he'll be acutely aware he's in the ring with schoolmate Mitchell Pearce. One of the best running five-eighths in the game and the perfect foil for halfback Cherry-Evans.

DALY CHERRY-EVANS

Position: Halfback

Age: 24

Weight: 84kg

Height: 180cm

Premierships: 1

Immortal Andrew Johns believes Cherry-Evans is putting real pressure on Cooper Cronk for his Kangaroos World Cup jersey, and it's hard to argue. His game has gone to another level this year and with Brett Stewart sniffing around, he'll be even more dangerous.

BRENTON LAWRENCE

Position: Prop

Age: 28

Weight: 106kg

Height: 187cm

Premierships: 0

Holds claim to being the buy of the season. Unheralded during his two seasons at the Gold Coast, Lawrence has enjoyed his breakout NRL season as a 28-year-old. His numbers have been excellent at prop.

MATT BALLIN

Position: Hooker

Age: 29

Weight: 88kg

Height: 179cm

Premierships: 2

There's Smith, Farah and Luke out there, but you get the feeling Manly wouldn't trade Matt Ballin for any of them. The tireless No.9 is more than a tackling machine - his kicking game and cool head is crucial.

BRENT KITE

Position: Prop

Age: 32

Weight: 109kg

Height: 193cm

Premierships: 2

Kite can be credited as a catalyst for helping Manly turn their fortunes around way back in 2005. Signed from St George Illawarra, Kite added steel and respectability to the Sea Eagles pack. The Clive Churchill winner back in 2008, expect another big showing in Kite's club farewell before heading to Penrith.

ANTHONY WATMOUGH

Position: Second row

Age: 30

Weight: 95kg

Height: 181cm

Premierships: 2

The reformed bad boy has been nursing niggling injuries for the back-end of the year but continues to play above himself - as he has for his entire career. Fast, tough and reliable - the leader of the Manly pack.

JUSTIN HORO

Position: Second row

Age: 27

Weight: 102kg

Height: 190cm

Premierships: 0

Another smart signing by coach Geoff Toovey. Horo has built on early promise shown at former club Parramatta to be a dangerous option for Manly on the left.

GLENN STEWART

Position: Lock

Age: 29

Weight: 103kg

Height: 180cm

Premierships: 2

Tough in defence and so skillful with the football, he's like a second five-eighth. A vital cog in the right-side attack and when going to the line he's aware his brother will never be far from his hip.

DAVID GOWER

Position: Prop

Age: 28

Weight: 105kg

Height: 190cm

Premierships: 0

Short on NRL experience, but journeyman Gower has been around a long while. As the favourite man to replace the injured Richie Fa'aoso, a GF cap would be reward for persistence.

INTERCHANGE

JAMIE BUHRER

Position: Second row

Age: 23

Weight: 94kg

Height: 180cm

Premierships: 1

Every premiership team needs a player like Buhrer. Doesn't mind getting his hands dirty and will do whatever asked of him by his coach.

TOM SYMONDS

Position: Second row

Age: 24

Weight: 102kg

Height: 189cm

Premierships: 0

Manly lost T-Rex but gained "T-Red". The ginger-haired back-rower provides impact off the bench and will be primed for a grand final meeting with the club that let him go - the Roosters.

GEORGE ROSE

Position: Prop

Age: 30

Weight: 116kg

Height: 188cm

Premierships: 1

It's only right that the biggest personality and the biggest belly in the Manly team is saying goodbye on the biggest stage. Rose leaves for Melbourne in career-best form and - cult status aside - he's a genuine weapon off the bench.

JAMES HASSON

Position: Second row

Age: 21

Weight: 105kg

Height: 191cm

Premierships: 0

Also in-line to replace Fa'aoso, Hasson has tasted NRL football this year and the likes of Glenn Stewart, Watmough and Kite won't let him feel overwhelmed.

PITA HIKU

Position: Fullback

Age: 20

Weight: 94kg

Height: 181cm

Premierships: 0

On standby for any mishaps in the backline before kick-off, Hiku won't disappoint if called up. The youngster was close to Manly's best player in the opening two weeks of the finals in Brett Stewart's absence. Safe as houses.

(note: two to be omitted from interchange for both teams)
