GOLD COAST, June 7 AAP - He's achieved a career goal by rising to starting status but Penrith hooker James Segeyaro is excited about Apisai Koroisau's imminent arrival at the Panthers.

Segeyaro has made the most of a foot injury to Kevin Kingston, playing every minute of Penrith's past four matches as the club has risen to the top of the NRL ladder.

The 24-year-old was again pivotal in the Panthers' 36-14 win over Gold Coast on Saturday, scoring a brilliant individual try in the opening minutes and having a hand in Penrith's second.

The dynamic No.9 finished the match with a game-high 51 tackles, 93 metres and five tackle busts.

His performance came just days after Penrith confirmed the capture of exciting South Sydney youngster Koroisau but rather than feel threatened about a new rival to his hard-won starting spot, Segeyaro has welcomed the addition.

"I love watching Api play, he's a gun. One of the superstars of the future," he said.

"It's going to be good for him to come to the club.

"It's going to be a good battle but I'm looking forward to it. It's good to have healthy competition."
