SYDNEY, July 7 AAP - NSW halfback Mitchell Pearce admits the State of Origin series decider looms as make-or-break for his rugby league representative career.

Pearce has been been a regular in the NSW side since 2010 and has made 11 Origin appearances stretching back to 2008.

But he accepts the lack of a NSW series win in that time - and for seven years - means it's unlikely he'll be retained in his key position unless the Blues come up trumps at ANZ Stadium on July 17.

"I think there's enough other pressure, but I certainly have my own," Pearce said.

"I've got to win, full stop. So if I don't win, I've got no doubt I won't be there."

"There's other guys knocking on the door and they (the selectors) will probably go another way (if we lose), so even more reason to win the game."

A keen video analyst of his own performances, Pearce said he had reviewed the heavy defeat in the second Origin game in Brisbane a number of times and accepted the need to improve his contgribution in some areas.

"When the fatigue came in we probably lost our way a little bit as a side," Pearce said.

"As a half I'm responsible for that, so that's something I'll be working hard at."

He rejected the suggestion the match in Brisbane was a horror show which augured badly for the Blues in the decider.

"I think there's plenty of areas that people from the outside don't see," Pearce said.

"But as a team, if we had have stuck to a few of our principles and done a few other things it would have been a different story.

"Only we know. We're the ones in camp and we're the ones working for it, and hopefully we can drive that for next week."

Pearce was happy with his form in the two club games he has played since the second Origin match, including the Sydney Roosters' 36-0 win over St George Illawarra on Saturday.
