Eamon O'Carroll says he is relishing the opportunity to take on more responsibility in the Hull pack following an injury to former Australian test prop Mark O'Meley.

Feeling fit and fresh after back and knee injuries of his own, O'Carroll has taken his place in the front row for the Black and Whites' last three matches in a welcome boost for head coach Peter Gentle, who lost O'Meley to a calf injury in Hull's last home game against defending champions Leeds Rhinos in early May.

Now set to face Grand Finalists St Helens at the KC Stadium tomorrow, O'Carroll says he is just one of several Hull players trying to step up their game to cover the loss of the former NRL star.

"Mark's a big loss for us as he's a big part of the team and he offers a lot of go forward," said former Wigan prop O'Carroll.

"It means everybody else has to try to do their bit to cover his loss, and personally that's something I'm looking forward to.

"I've had a frustrating start to the year with a couple of injuries, but I'm feeling good now and I'm hoping a run in the team will help me to improve further.

"We've all put in a couple of poor performances over the past few weeks and we all need to take responsibility for our own games tomorrow and put in the kind of display we know we are capable of."
