Rochdale Hornets ran riot at the Racecourse Ground, as they took full advantage of North Wales Crusaders' poor discipline and completion rate.

It was North Wales Crusaders who started the strongest however, taking an early lead, with debutant Kurt Haggerty at the heart of it. It came from back to back penalties and the Widnes man, currently on dual registration sent Wilkes in, to touch down in the right corner.

That was the only decent play they could come up with in the first period, whilst the Hornets took over and ran in five tries. Steven Roper was pinnacle in most of those scores, as he set up O'Connor with a grubber kick down the centre of the field and passed to Mark Hobson from close range to crash over.

He also bagged a try himself, as Mark Hobson sent him over the line following a break. The other two efforts came from Phil Braddish who powered his way through the Welsh sides defensive line after a tap penalty and then Leather went over for his first of the day.

The try from the substitute was most certainly the finest of the afternoon, as they opted for the power play on tackle five. Leather sent Dale Bloomfield down the wing, before receiving an infield kick back from the winger to touch down.

The signs were more encouraging from the home side after the break, as Brennan almost collected his kick up field after the ball dropped to his feet following a knock on by Rochdale.

The Hornets soon came back at them though, as they first kicked a goal following a penalty for markers not square and then Hough was sent over by McDermott.

The game spilled over shortly afterwards, as Anthony Morrison and Gary Middlehurst were both dismissed following a confrontation in the middle of the field. Crusaders looked to be coping the better with twelve men out of the two sides, as Wilkes turned and grounded in the corner to complete his brace of tries.

The visitors hit back once again, however this time with two tries in quick succession. The first came after Rochdale stole the ball near the home sides line and the impressive Jonny Leather went over for his second. He was involved in the next score too, as his strong running was too much for the fragile Crusaders defence and he then laid on a pass to Josh Cookson.

Two late tries were simply mere consolation for the Welsh side, as both Hulme and Massam went over in the left corner following breaks. The last word came from the Hornets though, as Bannister sent his inside runner, Adam Bowman over, which saw the Hornets take their tally for the season to six points on the table and surpass the half-century mark.
