The Sharks have enjoyed some belated revenge for being knocked out of the 2011 finals series when they defeated their conquerers the North Queensland Cowboys 32-12 at Dairy Farmers Stadium.

The Sharks, who were beaten just one game shy of the Grand Final last season, answered in the best possible fashion in handing the Cowboys a hiding on their home field.

After falling behind early when the home side managed a converted try in the seventh minute, the Sharks took control for pretty much the remainder of the contest.

The first try for the Sharks came through front rower Joel Tubbs and when Jake Walsh converted the scores were locked at 6-all after 23 minutes of the first half.

Just seven minutes later Luke Pickerd gave the Sharks their first lead of the night and with the Walsh kick again successful the young Cronulla side had jumped out to a 12-6 lead. That advantage stretched out to 16-6 when Dj Lokeni Purcell touched down as the Sharks would take a 10 point lead to the half time break.

The Cowboys were again first to score in the second stanza to narrow the margin to just four points, however a second try to prop forward Tubbs pushed the Sharks 10 points clear.

That was as close as the Cowboys would get, with late tries to Daniel Moroko and James Hasson helping to secure the Sharks a valuable two competition points away from home.

The Toyota Cup Sharks have now won three games from their first four starts in a promising start to the 2012 season, with their next assignment an away match against the Penrith Panthers on Saturday evening.
