SYDNEY, May 30 AAP - The NRL integrity unit has suspended its investigation into allegations of assault against Ben Te'o at the request of the Queensland police.

Police interviewed Queensland State of Origin back-rower Te'o on Thursday morning and are understood to be planning further interviews.

NRL chief operating officer Jim Doyle, under whose banner the integrity unit falls, said the NRL will fully co-operate with the police investigation.

"Given that the police are assuming that (investigative) responsibility it is important that we step back for the moment and let them undertake that role," Doyle said in a statement on Thursday.

"We will of course co-operate with their investigation.

"It would be inappropriate however for us to attempt to draw any conclusion while their investigations are ongoing.

"The integrity unit has conducted a number of interviews to date and remains committed to drawing the appropriate conclusion but it is equally important that we first allow the police to carry out their inquiries.

"It is also important to note that no charges have been laid against any player.

South Sydney forward Te'o broke Queensland Origin camp at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast on Thursday morning, reportedly to attend an interview at Ferny Grove police station.

It is understood he had his lawyers with him during the interview after 22-year-old woman Katie Lewis gave police a statement alleging she was assaulted.

Lewis has told the Nine Network that Te'o punched her in the face, fracturing her eye socket, at a Brisbane house in April, also attended by fellow NRL players Corey Norman and Darius Boyd.

Te'o has strongly denied any wrongdoing.
