When he signed with the Roosters at the end of last year, Daniel Mortimer knew the task at hand and he knew his biggest opportunity would come at Origin time.

Cue this weekend.

"The coaches told me they really want me here and that I'm here for a reason and that has given me great confidence and I'm now really enjoying my footy again."

"Coming here has been really refreshing and exactly what I wanted."

"The great thing about the Roosters is you are not at all forgotten in the NSW Cup," he said.

"Smithy and the coaches still go through all your video with you, they watch you play every week and they analyse your performance each week and tell you what to improve on."

This has been evident by Mortimer's performances at the Jets and the exact reason the 22 year-old was an automatic choice to replace Mitch Pearce over the Origin period.

Morts has been a constant threat in the NSW Cup and backed it up with a double last weekend.

"I have worked really hard this year to try and play a bit more instinctively and play what's in front of me," he said

"It's starting to work, a heap of long balls and a few chip and chases are coming off so I'm coming in to the Manly game with some confidence."

Mortimer was a stand out in the opening game of the season and said he is itching to give it another crack.

"I just want to be heavily involved and execute all my plays well," he said.

"I want to be everywhere, I have nothing to lose."

"This Origin period is giving me the chance to put together a few good performances and hopefully force a bench spot because Pearcey and Braith always do a great job."

One thing we can be sure of is regardless of what happens, no one will be putting in more than the young man from Orange.
