SYDNEY, Sept 24 AAP - Newcastle winger James McManus is back but the Sydney Roosters remain without back-rower Boyd Cordner for Saturday night's preliminary final at Allianz Stadium.

McManus shed the moon boot and took part in training on Tuesday after missing the Knights' semi-final win over Melbourne last weekend with an ongoing ankle complaint.

His replacement Kevin Naiqama performed well against the Storm, but the return of NSW Origin winger McManus - joint leading try-scorer this season with 19 four-pointers - is a welcome boost to the Knights.

Tyrone Roberts was named at halfback after being cleared of an ankle injury.

Cordner was nowhere to be seen, despite coach Trent Robinson naming a six-man bench for the meeting with the Knights.

The NSW Origin back-rower is recovering from ankle surgery, and remains an outside chance of proving his fitness ahead of the match.

The Roosters get Jared Waerea-Hargreaves back from suspension, forcing Luke O'Donnell back to the bench alongside Daniel Mortimer, Mitchell Aubusson, Issac Liu, Dylan Napa and Martin Kennedy.

Manly named Brett Stewart at fullback as he steps up his bid to play after three weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring strain in an otherwise unchanged outfit to face South Sydney on Friday night.

Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire named a seven-man bench, which included reserve playmaker Luke Keary and retiring centre Matt King.

Maguire would obviously be tempted to carry Keary on his bench, having seen his side's premiership chances ruined by a hamstring injury early in the corresponding game last season when the Bunnies went down to Canterbury.
