London Broncos coach Tony Rea has named four players in his 19-man squad who could make their debuts if selected in the match day squad for Sunday's Wakefield Trinity Wildcats clash at The Rapid Solicitors stadium (kick-off 3:30pm).
Under 19s players Joel Wicks and Harry Little are both in 19-man squad while the club can also confirm the loan signing of Jacob Fairbank from Huddersfield Giants in time for the game. Mason Canton-Brown could also debut having impressed during his dual registration with Hemel Stags.
“Joel and Harry are both promoted and could debut on Sunday. James Woodburn Hall would also have been in the 19 but he picked up an ankle injury,” said Tony Rea on his squad.
“There’s real strength in our u19s and they are playing really well. Joel and Harry are picked on performance, yes there have been a couple of injuries but we’ve been looking at them to come in and do stuff anyway. They’ve earned the right; they have a great passion for the club and are strong players with a great ability to play the game.
“We could have nine London developed players in the 17 so it’s a really good day for the club.
“We also welcome down Jacob Fairbank on loan who had a hit out with Batley Bulldogs on Thursday. He’s a player we’d spoken about before he went to Bradford Bulls on loan from parent club Huddersfield Giants. With a couple of other injuries around the middle we look forward to his work rate.
The Broncos will be without 11 regular starters for the game; Jamie O’Callaghan, David Howell, Michael Witt, Antonio Kaufusi, Chad Randall, Shane Rodney, Chris Bailey, Tony Clubb, Matt Cook, Will Lovell and Tommy Lee. Tony Rea confirmed the injuries saying:
“Chris Bailey suffered a bicep tear in the Exiles game last week and will most likely have surgery.
“Tony Clubb has a knee injury, while Michael Witt has a calf strain. David Howell has picked up a bone infection in his arm following the break earlier in the season which requires treatment so he’ll likely miss around three weeks.”
James Mendeika has now completed his extended loan period with the club. The club would like to thank James for his time in the capital where he made seven appearances, scoring two tries.
“James has given his best for the place and we thank him for his effort.”
