South Wales Scorpions had to settle for a bonus point in the English capital on Saturday after a 27-26 defeat to London Skolars.

The teams tied on tries and conversions, it was simply a Dylan Skee drop-goal that was the difference. He scored the crucial one-pointer with three minutes to go following a period of threatening attacks from the home side.

The Scorpions gained a bonus point but the Skolars are now just three points behind the Welsh side in the Co-operative Championship 1 table.

Skolars took the lead in less that two minutes after Scorpions gave away a scrum on their own ten metre line. Jaroslaw Obuchowski receiving Mourad Kriouache's pass to go over and Dylan Skee converting.

Kriouache kicked a 40-20 to set up another attack as Skolars looked for an immediate second. Curtis Cunningham intercepted a pass to prevent a certain try but was forced into touch.

Chris Clough and Joe Burke then held up Gareth Honor over the line but Skolars weren't to be denied. Will Colleran pounced on Kriouache's kick to score the second. Skee Converted again.

Scorpions got back into the game on 13 minutes when Andrew Gay ran through to score after good work from Clough. Reece converted.

But Skolars restored the balance four minutes later when Obuchowski went over in the corner for his second, Skee missing the kick.

Gay went over for his second and Scorpions' 1000th ever point on 23 minutes. Reece missed the kick.

Scorpions then levelled the scores ten minutes later. Steve Parry went over for a typically close range try, his ninth of the season, and Reece added the extras.

And they took the lead on 36 minutes. Dalton Grant skilfully scored in the corner after catching Casey Bromilow's long pass. Reece did well to convert to give Scorpions a 22-16 advantage at half-time.

Skolars got back into the game two minutes into the second half when Ade Adebisi finished off a fine passing move to score in the corner. Skee missed the kick.

Gay went for his hat-trick, trying to charge over in the corner but was forced into touch by Dave Arnot.

At the other end, Scorpions had a narrow escape when James Anthony was put in space by Cariern Clement-Pascall but he dropped the ball when clear to score.

But Scorpions increased their lead to six points when Curtis Cunningham went over in the corner but Reece missed the tricky kick.

It didn't last long. Danger man Adebesi scoring his second after Sam Gee's pass with Dylan Skee's goal levelling the scores before kicking the crucial point.

The same man missed a penalty in the final seconds but it wouldn't have made any difference to the final result.
