Newcastle have snatched a tough two points, defeating Parramatta 14-6 at Hunter Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Two tries to winger Akuila Uate proved to be the difference, with the winger returning to some of his best close to the line.

Tyrone Roberts was also key to the win, kicking 3/3 for the afternoon, including an important penalty goal.

It didn't take long for the Knights to post first points in the game, with Uate crossing in the corner. There was some good vision from Danny Buderus to spread the ball wide to Junior Sa'u, who attracted plenty of attention from the Parramatta defenders. He snuck an offload to Uate, who is always hard to stop close to the line. Roberts converted from the sideline to give the home side an early 6-0 lead.

Sa'u was in menacing form, almost scoring a try of his own just two minutes later. This time the Eels muscled up and shut down the centre, but he was looking sharp.

The Knights were making good metres in Eels half, and a penalty close to the posts allowed Roberts to add a further two points.

The Eels were heaping plenty of pressure on the Knights line, but some great defence from the Knights held them out for the majority of the first half.

But the Eels finally cracked the line, with Tim Mannah throwing his weight around to barge over for Parramatta's first points of the day. Chris Sandow converted to cut the deficit to two points at halftime.

The Eels came out of the break firing, but it was the Knights who had the first chance to post first points of the half. Zeb Taia pushed a pass to James McManus, who was in the clear just metres out from the line. But the winger was unable to hold onto the ball, dropping it cold and letting a golden chance go begging.

However it only took three minutes for the Knights to gain the ascendancy, with Jarrod Mullen kicking a superb 40/20 to give the home side a real opportunity to extend their slender two point lead.

It was Uate who capitalised, getting his second for the day off the back of a vintage backline move involving Darius Boyd and Sa'u. Roberts was again successful from out wide, giving us the final score of 14-6.

The remainder of the half was a real arm-wrestle, with both sides having plenty of opportunities to win the game. Penalties and mistakes for both teams meant no further points were scored, and it was the Knights who were able to hold on to claim a crucial two competition points.
