Hull FC have moved swiftly to cover their vacant full back position with the arrival of talented Wigan youngster Matthew Russell.
The 18-year-old has joined the Black and Whites on an initial one-month loan and is expected to be vying for the No.1 jersey over the coming weeks.
The Warriors man is one of Super League's hot young prospects and is expected to follow the likes of Sam Tomkins, Liam Farrell and Michael McIlorum in establishing himself as a first-team regular at the DW Stadium in the coming years.
Having arrived at the club's Elite Performance Centre for his first training session on Tuesday afternoon, Russell said, "This is a good chance for me to impress and I'm really happy to be out gaining some Super League experience.
"To be able to do that at a big club like Hull FC, well it doesn't come any better than that and I can't wait to play."
He added, "I know some of the lads here like Reece Lyne, Eamon O'Carroll and Martin Aspinwall and they all speak very highly about the club, so I'm looking forward to it.
"I've got a lot to prove, but I'm here to do my best and stay as long as I can."
Speaking about the signing, Hull FC's Director of Rugby, Shaun McRae, added, "Matthew is a player that has caught the eye of a number of clubs in recent seasons, which has continued now he has made the step up into the first-team.
"Kris Radlinski, the Director of Rugby at Wigan, certainly speaks very highly of him as a young player and importantly as a person and you can't fail to have picked up a wealth of experience learning your trade in a backs division that consists of players like Sam Tomkins, Pat Richards and Josh Charnley to name just three.
"He is still quite raw and has a lot to learn, but he has real talent and he now has the chance to come to Hull and show us exactly what he is capable of.
"It will be a great learning curve for him and at the same time will give us another option at the back following the departure of Wade McKinnon."
"I would also like to thank Wigan, Shaun Wane and and Kris Radlinski for their co-operation in allowing Matthew to join us on loan."
Having been a stand out performer in the Valvoline Cup, the reserve grade competition, Russell made his senior debut earlier this season going on to play two games, scoring three tries in the process.
His points contribution from full back has been superb during his time in the Wigan U20's scoring 13 times in 22 appearances, whilst he was also named Man of the Match in last season's Valvoline Cup Final against rivals Warrington.
Having represented England from Under 15's through to Under 18's he is a real star of the future, with a great turn of pace and a good skill set that can be a real threat at the defensive line.
Russell will be considered for the squad for Saturday's clash with Leeds Rhinos at the KC Stadium.
