The Gold Coast Titans NYC side have failed in their bid to register back-to-back wins in a 46-20 loss to the St George Illawarra Dragons at Skilled Park.

A hat-trick to Dragons Under-20s centre Charly Runciman helped the visitors to a 26-point victory.

Coming off a gutsy win over the Warriors in New Zealand last week, the Titans under 20s looked to have put their season back on track, but a poor opening 20 minute stanza saw the side slump to 20-point half-time deficit, which proved too costly for the Titans to comeback from.

After the break, the Titans managed to restrict the away side to three tries, while crossing for two of their own, to reduce the full-time margin back to 46-20.

Early on, the Dragons left –side was causing nightmares for the Titans defence, and a quick-double to centre Runciman saw the visitor’s race away to a 10-0 lead inside the opening ten minutes.

The Dragons continued to threaten the Titans line, and proved they were just as lethal on the right-side with winger Yaw Kiti Glymen scooping in two pin-point kicks in successive-sets to get a quick double and extend their lead out to 20-0 after as many minutes.

Some crafty play resulted in the Titans forcing repeat sets in attacking position, and they took advantage when halfback Kane Elgey dummied his way across the line to score under the posts to give Sam Johnson an easy conversion and reduce the deficit to 20-6 with 25 minutes remaining.

But from the resulting kick-off, the Titans dropped the ball and then compounded the error with some poor-defence allowing the Dragons to score out wide through Kayne Brennan as their extended their lead to 24-6.

On the back of the try, the Titans responded with some tough defence to force an error and recapture possession before putting on a lovely back-line play resulting in Kurtis McDonald scoring out-wide to reduce the margin back to 24-10 with five minutes remaining.

But some poor-discipline gifted the Dragons a penalty in prime-attacking position, and utility Brody Rigg barged his way across the line to give Jackson Hastings an easy conversion to give the Dragons a handy 30-10 half-time lead.

After the break, the Titans had the run of momentum and possession and were unlucky not to post points after being denied a try for a double-movement in the 50th minute and then again in the 54th minute after knocking the ball on over the line.

After a run of possession with the ball, the Titans found themselves under pressure after losing the ball and the Dragons capitalised through centre Runciman who crossed out-wide to bag his hat-trick to take the lead out to 34-10 with just over 20 minutes to play.

The Titans hit-back minutes later through Sam Johnson who crossed out-wide but he was unable to convert his own try leaving the Titans trailing 34-14 with 18 minutes remaining.

But the visitors put any hopes of a Titans comeback to rest scoring two quick tries through Hastings and Jack Bird to take their lead out to 46-14 with just under ten minutes remaining.

The Titans ended the game on a positive note, with Zac Friend scoring under the posts in the final minutes, to give Johnson an easy conversion to reel the full-time score back to 46-20.

The Titans will look to hit-back next week when they take on the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
